 Paint problems in Merida Centro
Hello, I was wondering if someone can advice me what to do with my paint. I heard so many different issues about looking humid and peeling off the walls that I am really confuse. I notice that some homes look in good shape after awhile, but my paint is just constantly peeling off. Thank you! This is a great space!

Re: Paint problems in Merida Centro
Hi Karemm You are not alone most of us if not all have a same problem with in Centro, the paint is bubbling and flaking off about 2 – 3 feet above the ground. Most houses in Merida Centro were constructed with the use of stone masonry and without any horizontal insulation, consequently those walls act like a sponge, absorbing all the moisture from the ground and transferring it up the wall. Part of the wall which is exposed to frequent changes in moisture content is subjected to increase in chemical reaction and that is where the problem occurs. There are permanent solutions to this problem but involve costly, difficult and time consuming operations, you would have to completely strip and clean your walls and then saturate it with the Deep Penetrating Sealers which are available in Merida but are expensive. Most effective way to deal with this problem is to keep repairing those areas every 6 months or so. I am afraid there is no other practical solution to this problem

Re: Paint problems in Merida Centro
Hi I have heard from a friend of ours an architect, who used an imported deep penetrating sealer which saturated the entire wall. Operation was costly and it was done a few months ago. There was not enough time to see what results it brought. In a couple of months will let you know.
