 Painting-Galvanized Metal
Hello! I recently purchased a home in Merida where the previous owner painted all the walls; I am in the process of finishing all the trims, door and windows, no problem. The one thing I am not at all sure about is the galvanized metal. What can I do to prep it and prime it before I paint it? Also, what is a good brand of paint to use? Anyone else done this?

 Re: Painting-Galvanized Metal
Hi If the galvanized surface has weathered and is covered with the “white rust” remove it by wire brushing or scrubbing it with a stiff brush or abrasive pad. Than, completely remove oil and grease from the surface, you should do it with the water based cleaners and degreasers or vinegar, do not clean it with the paint solvents or mineral spirits. To prime it, I would prefer zinc oxide primer and oil base enamel for a top coat, but I guess you can use an Enamel Latex Primer and Latex Paints as well. Good Luck
