Greetings, I'm a solar professional here in the US but I'm hoping to relocate to the Quintana Roo/Yucatan area. I specialize in off-grid system design and installation, though grid-tie is always available.

I have a few questions for those of you already down south:

Do you see many solar PV installations occurring where you live?

Where do you currently go for your solar PV needs, to a business or DIY?

Are these large developments advertised in the Playa-Tulum area being built or is it just speculation?

Are you building homes that are off-grid?

To the best of my knowledge and belief
There are some occasional PV installations in Merida and along the beaches in Yucatan.
There is one store in Merida, few in Cancun area and some companies offering sales and installation.
Newer know, until is built
I have built one home which for first 2 years was off–grid and then got connected to it; it was powered by the wind turbine.
Solar panels, batteries and all other gizmos needed for that system to function are just too expensive here. Some people using it for fun or if they have no better options available. Until prices of PV systems remain high it doesn’t make sense to use this stuff here.
