Post Hurricane Insurance in Yucatan
Hello all... Any recommendation for a good homeowner’s insurance company? We're purchasing a house in Telchac Puerto.
Is it highly recommended that we have hurricane insurance?
I'd appreciate any suggestions!
Thanks! Nelly

Hi Nelly
According to Yucatecos, hurricane hit the area about once every ten years, but just as a precaution is good to have insurance policy that covers hurricane damage. For several years we had ING policy covering those events, but two years ago we switched to home insurance policy issued by Banamex, and the reason was the price of the insurance policy. They require that you open saving or checking account in Banamex and that your property has a sea wall.
That is what we have, you however, should investigate this on your own, there are several insurance brokers and financial institution in Merida that offers this type of insurances.

My wife and I feel pretty confident with HSBC Grand Plaza branch, we have our homeowner’s policy there, and I think they also offer car insurance coverage...

Problem with Banamex is that in order to get your home insured through them, you have to open checking or saving account with them. You can’t just pay for it in cash.

Our homeowner’s policy rates with ING went way up this year, is this case with Banamex or HSBC?

Banamex insurance is probably cheape, easier and faster to get than any other insurance.

Hi
I guess that HCBS’s policy is OK but the fact that they tried to sell me a some "health emergency insurance" in order to obtain their home policy insurance completely discouraged me from dealing with HSBC.
