 Discoloured grout and calcium build-up
Hello Our pool has severely discoloured grout, along with a really nasty calcium deposit on the tile. How can I restore the grout colour? And how can I get rid of the scale deposits? Jerry

Re: Discoloured grout and calcium build-up
Hi You shouldn’t have a problem with scale and calcium clean-up, just drain the pool send blast it or scrape it and then wash it with acid. Your bigger problem is tile grout discoloration, grout probably changed its colour because of pool chemicals, chlorine and other chemical reactions, I don’t think you will be able to restore its original colour. But you should be able to remove the old grout and grout the tile again. If you don’t like this idea you can try to use grout stain and stain all grout lines with the small brush. Adam

Baking soda can act as a mild abrasive. Use baking soda when cleaning the tile dip a wet sponge into the baking soda and scrubbing the tile you will see the result.

You might be able to find some very acidic grout cleaner at a hardware store. You want something that is foamy or thick so it can stay on top of the grout and not run. You could also regrout but that will take time and money. As far as calcium build up, sometimes I just take a coarse brush and scrub the sidewalls of the pool to get any build up off of it.
