 Water well - pozo
Hi everyone We are toying with an idea of purchasing a country home, it is a small ranch. It has all the electrical services functioning but it is not connected to the city water system. Water to the all property is coming from the water well “pozo". This farm had only a few cows in past several years, but I am concern with the water contamination. Is there any institution that tests the water quality in Yucatan?

 Re: Water well - pozo
Hi I am new to this forum stuff and I am hoping I get some answers. I'm interesting in buying several acres of land outside Merida which has city electricity and 3 water wells. Do the wells dry up seasonally, or would well water be a long-term problem? John.

Hi I don’t think you should wary about well drying out. If there are pozos on this property, most likely they were used in agriculture in the past and if there is water in them now, it should remain there after you buy the property. I have never heard about pozos drying out here in Yucatan.

Hi I think it is, if you are living in the country it most likely is, if you are in Merida it could be different story. I any case have your water tested to make sure it is OK to use it.

I don’t think that the ground water in Merida is even good enough for the swimming pool but testing it is the best idea.

 Re: Water well - pozo
Considering relatively low water cost in Merida I think it is better to use city water for your pool. The main reason is that if you have water from the well (pozo) chances are that your next door neighbor may use his old water well as a sewer pit and consequently your water may be contaminated. Checking water quality is the best thing you can do.

I am in total agreement with you. It’s hard to imagine using well water in the city where most properties have water wells and the sewer pits right next to each other.
