How often do hurricanes that cause damage happen here? and does it make to sense to install hurricane shutters in Yucatan beach area?

Re: Hurricane shutters
Hello Martin Natives claim that “the big one” comes about every 10 years, and in respect to the hurricane shutters or storm panels: It will definitely protect your home from the storms and it will be more difficult to break into, but it has a several drawbacks: generally expensive, require maintenance and there is always a question of esthetics. We do not have it in our beach house and I am not going to install it. I think it in case of a large hurricane I will put my stuff up in the 2nd floor or do what everyone is doing – load it up and take it in my truck to Merida.
